Genetics: From Mendel to Molecules

BIG IDEA:   Living systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes.

In this unit of study, we will focus on how organisms pass on inherited traits through the sexual reproduction of cells.  We will also examine Mendel's Laws of Heredity, and learn about modes of inheritance.  We'll use principles of statistics to support hypotheses we'll make about the outcomes of genetic crosses.  We will also learn about the molecules of heredity, how they determine what proteins are produced by cells, and how this process is regulated by eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
