Dallas World Aquarium museum/zoo Found in downtown Dallas, this aquarium is host to manatees, penguins and alligators. Easily accessible via DART rail! http://www.dwazoo.com/d/ 
Dallas Zoo museum/zoo The Dallas Zoo is home to the largest zoo-based savanna habitat in the US. It contains elephants, giraffes and other wildlife normally found in the African savanna. DART Rail goes directly to the zoo on the Red Line. http://www.dallaszoo.com/ 
The Heard Museum museum/zoo The Heard Museum is a museum/nature preserve in McKinney that showcases Texas wildlife, especially that native to North Texas. http://www.heardmuseum.org/theheard/affinity.asp 
Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve nature preserve Oak Point is Plano's largest park, covering over 800 acres. There are nature trails and equestrian trails. The park is open from sunup to sundown. http://www.plano.gov/Departments/parksandrecreation/Parks/OakPoint/Pages/default.aspx 
Connemara Conservancy nature preserve Connemara is a nature preserve located in Allen, off of Bethany and Alma. Weekends are open to visitors that are not members. Go see what our local area used to look like before thousands inhabited it! http://www.connemaraconservancy.org/main/_index.php 
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve nature preserve Arbor Hills, located in West Plano, is a large nature preserve with hike and bike trails, including an off-road cycling trail. Fort Worth Zoo museum/zoo The Fort Worth Zoo has over 5,000 animals on exhibit, many in natural-style habitats. Definitely worth the drive.  http://www.fortworthzoo.org/ 
Fossil Rim Wildlife Center museum/zoo Located in Glen Rose, this wildlife park and preserve contains many exotic animals in a natural habitat. You can either take a guided tour or drive your own vehicle through the park and feed the animals!  http://www.fossilrim.org/ 
LeafSnap App A field guide to trees in the northeastern US, this app for the iPad, iPhone and Android platforms can be used locally to identify various tree species. http://leafsnap.com/

Kimball's Biology Pages website This site is an excellent resource that essentially serves as a continually updated online textbook. Kimball's Biology Pages 
ARKive.org website Take a visual tour of the world's species, including endangered species, using this site. You can search for the species in your immediate area as well. ARKive.org 
Perot Museum of Nature and Science museum/zoo The Perot Museum is now open in Victory Park. Take the DART Rail to the Victory Park station, and the museum is a short walk from the station. This museum has hundreds of interactive exhibits from all disciplines of science to help everyone learn more about the natural world. http://www.perotmuseum.org
