Lee Silva Ferguson, BA, MAT

I am an educator, a lifelong learner, and a lover of science.  I am privileged to get to share these things with both children and adults alike.

I am also a staunch advocate of the public school system.

I am a reflective practitioner who is always looking for ways to improve what I do so that I can help students learn.

I am the wife of a fellow educator, the daughter of two fantastic parents, and the sister of two of the best siblings one could ask for.

Things I've Done:

  • I've led professional development sessions for teachers and pre-service teachers for the past 9 years.
  • I've been a test item writer and reviewer for exams given in Texas, California and Tennessee.
  • I helped to write the current Biology TEKS (2009).
  • I've been an AP Reader for College Board since 2006.
  • I founded a professional learning community for AP Biology teachers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
  • I'm a contributing author to the teacher's edition of Principles of Life, 2nd edition. 
  • I'm the 2016-2017 President-Elect for the Texas Association of Biology Teachers

Awards I've Been Given:

  • I was the Allen High School Science Teacher of the Year in 2015.
  • I was the Outstanding Biology Teacher Awardee for Texas in 2010.
  • I was the Plano ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in 1999-2000.
  • I was a Plano ISD Perot Excellence in Teaching Award winner in 1999-2000.
  • I was the Clark High School Teacher of the Year in 1999-2000. 


For Fun:

  • I'm a Rotarian and was awarded the Dan Neal Service Above Self Award for my club in 2015.
  • I'm a proud and active alumna of Southwestern University--I recruit prospective students and help fundraise for the university.  
  • I enjoy traveling, reading, writing, and cooking.

Things I'd Like to Do:

  • Earn a PhD in either curriculum and instruction or science education.
  • Teach preservice teachers.
  • Lead professional development for you and your teachers, if you'll have me.
